Public
Speaking.

From emerging technologies to environmental protection, I use public speaking to explore the questions that connect scientific progress with everyday life.

Technology and the human experience

Progress is not only about what we build.

In a WAPI finalist speech, Liyan reflected on a central tension of technological progress: as attention turns to computing power, model rankings and financial value, how do we make sure innovation still answers human needs?

Her speech considered the social consequences of unchecked technological development, including AI-enabled scams, and argued for stronger human judgment and responsibility when designing systems that influence people's lives.

Wildlife
Beyond Borders.

Poaching and wildlife smuggling are more than individual acts of illegal hunting. In her environmental speech, Liyan explored how organized wildlife crime disrupts biodiversity, weakens ecosystems and creates public safety concerns.

Drawing on the international enforcement effort known as Operation Thunder, the presentation connected global illicit trade with consumer demand, conservation policy and the shared responsibility to protect endangered species.

Antimicrobial
Resistance.

In a group presentation prepared for a Hong Kong University summer-program setting, Liyan examined antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through agricultural antibiotic use, biological resistance mechanisms and the interconnected health of people, animals and the environment.

An afterword

The most meaningful conversations begin with better questions.

Across technology, conservation and public health, these talks share a belief that research becomes more valuable when its consequences are understood, questioned and communicated beyond the classroom.
